Survey research guide: from Google Forms to SPSS

Ten articles in the order you will do the work: design the questionnaire, set the sample size, pilot it, bring the data into SPSS, test the scales and read the model results. Each states the thresholds, sources and common mistakes.

Stage 1

Survey design

Build the questionnaire, choose scales, set the sample size and pilot before launch.

  1. 1 Create a proper Google Form survey Questionnaire structure, question types, sections and the settings to turn on before sharing the link.
  2. 2 Create a Microsoft Forms survey Step by step in Microsoft Forms: question types, Likert scales, sections, branching, settings and sharing the link.
  3. 3 Likert scales in Google Forms Choosing 5 or 7 points, linear scale or grid, reverse-coded items and coding.
  4. 4 How to calculate sample size Cochran, Slovin, rules for EFA, regression and PLS-SEM, plus how to allow for response rates.
  5. 5 Pilot testing a questionnaire Expert review, cognitive interviews, pilot sample size and the indicators to check before the main survey.
Stage 2

Data and scales

Bring the data into SPSS correctly, then check the reliability and validity of the scales.

  1. 6 Export Google Form data to SPSS Download the CSV, code text answers as numbers, set variable labels and check the data before analysis.
  2. 7 Cronbach's Alpha trong SPSS Run Reliability Analysis, read item-total correlations and decide which items to keep.
  3. 8 KMO, Bartlett and EFA When to run EFA, choosing extraction and rotation, reading the rotated matrix and handling cross-loadings.
  4. 9 CR, AVE and HTMT Composite reliability, convergent and discriminant validity: formulas, thresholds and a worked example.
Stage 3

Model and conclusions

Test the relationships between variables and report the results properly.

  1. 10 Reading SPSS regression output R², ANOVA, Beta coefficients, VIF, Durbin-Watson and the assumptions to check before concluding.
  2. 11 Mediators and bootstrapping Test indirect effects with bootstrapping, read the confidence intervals and classify the mediation.
Editorial principles

Written so you can defend every number

Clear sources

Every threshold comes with its author and year so you can cite it in your report.

Ready to use

SPSS menu paths, sample syntax and a checklist for each step.

Honest with data

Simulated data is only for testing the questionnaire and the analysis workflow, never a replacement for real data.
